Mitchell, Keeton Pick up All-GAC Recognition

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern outfielder Wesley Mitchell has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Year while his teammate Chase Keeton joined him on the first team as the league announced its postseason honors on Wednesday.
 
Fresh off a sweep of rival East Central to end the regular season and clinch a playoff berth, Mitchell and Keeton pick up first team all-conference honors.
 
Mitchell, a senior outfielder from Katy, Texas, leads or is ranked in the top-10 in the GAC of nearly every major offensive stat category. He leads the conference in home runs with 19, and total bases with 137, and is ranked second in slugging percentage and RBI.
 
His 66 hits on the season rank third in the league, while his .375 batting average is seventh in the league as are his 14 doubles.
 
Mitchell picks up the program's first GAC Player of the Year honor and is the first baseball player to pick up an overall player of the year award since Chad Fox in 2003.
 
Keeton, a senior from Waco, Texas, was a unanimous selection at the utility position. Keeton piled on the hits to close out the season, earning player of the week honors following the final week of the season as he pushed his batting average to .396 on the year which ranks second in the league.
 
He leads the league in slugging percentage at .792 and his 15 home runs rank third in the league heading into the postseason. He has racked up 10 doubles and three triples while driving in 39 runs.
 
Southeastern is set to open play in the Great American Conference Tournament on May 1 at 1 p.m. versus Arkansas tech in Enid, Okla.
