FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma State's tournament run ends in the GAC Championships, falling to #34 Southern Arkansas 4-2.
Southeastern and Southern Arkansas battled early in the doubles round, looking to find the first edge in the match, as the two sides traded blows at courts two and three. SAU got the first win of the round at No. 2 before
Emilse Ruiz and
Amishi Shukla evened things up with a 6-2 win from the No. 3 line.
At the No. 1 spot,
Jou Chen Chen and
Carol Mora fell behind 5-4 in the match, but rallied to win the next three games to secure a 7-5 win and clinch the doubles point for SE, 1-0.
Sara Gonzalez extended SE's lead in the singles round with a 6-1 and 6-4 win over SAU's Honoka Yoshimura at No. 6, but the Muleriders came charging back to win the next three singles matches to take a 3-2 lead. SAU continued its rally from the No. 1 line as it secured its fourth singles win for a match victory.
