Storm Earns Six Singles Wins and Two Doubles Wins at ITA Regionals

EDMOND, Okla. – The Southeastern women's tennis program picked up two doubles wins in Flight A and six singles wins at the ITA Regionals. Emilia O'Neill would make it to the finals of the consolation bracket and come up just short in a tie-breaker set.
 
SE's doubles team of O'Neill and Amishi Shukla continued the strong start to the fall season, opening the event with an 8-3 win over Augustana's Smilte Bakyte and Simon-Maria Karaouza. O'Neill and Shukla followed with an 8-2 victory in the round of 16, defeating Jevrosima Mitic and Johanna Priedite from Missouri Western State, but would fall in the quarterfinals 8-2 to end the duo's run.
 
After suffering a first-round defeat in Flight A singles, O'Neill put together a run of four wins in the consolation bracket to reach the finals. The freshman had to battle for her first singles win of the tournament, defeating Newman's Mariana Jimenez 3-6, 6-4 and 10-5 to advance to the round of 16, where she bested Rayssa Dominguez from Arkansas-Fort Smith 6-4 and 7-5.
 
In the quarterfinals, O'Neill battled GAC-foe Brooke Coffman from Harding and defeated her 6-2, 6-7, and 10-7 to move on to the semifinals, and again would face another GAC rival from Ouachita Baptist, winning 6-3 and 6-0. The finals took three sets to decide a winner, and O'Neill would come up short, with a 7-6, 4-6 and 6-10 defeat to Emporia State's Yuliya Klimova.
