Softball to Play in the Cherokee Nation D2 Festival Saturday and Sunday

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern heads to Tahlequah, Okla., on February 14 and 15 to compete in the Cherokee Nation D2 Festival, where they will play four games in two days.
 
The Savage Storm opens play on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1:30 p.m. against No. 7 Central Oklahoma, followed by Northeastern State at 4 p.m. First pitch on day two is set for 11 a.m. versus No. 17 Missouri Southern, and later in the day, SE faces Washburn at 1:30 p.m.
 
STORM REPOT
Southeastern took part in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic over the weekend and finished 2-4 with wins over Central Missouri and Washburn. Following the event, the Storm holds a 4-6 record, matching their start in the 2025 season.
 
India McMurray continued her strong start to the season at the Avly Early Memorial Classic, as she finished with nine hits on a .600 batting average with four home runs and eight runs driven in. The Dallas natives efforts saw her earn GAC Player of the Week honors and NFCA National Player of the Week recognition. McMurray leads the GAC in home runs with six and ranks third on the team with a .419 batting average and 13 hits.
 
Leading the SE lineup at the plate is Susan Edwards, who has 17 hits in 39 plate appearances for a .436 average. Edwards has scored the second most runs for the blue and gold this season with eight and ranks third on the team with 21 total bases from her leadoff position. Iliana Olivares paces the side with a .457 average at the plate with 16 hits and leads the team with four doubles. Southeastern ranks among the top teams in extra-base hits across the GAC, as it ranks third in doubles and home runs with 15 and 12, respectively, and is fourth in total bases with 150. 
 
Alyson Malone put in a dominant performance in her start against Washburn during the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. The right-handed hurler pitched a complete-game shutout to earn her first win of the season and tallied a career-high ten strikeouts on her way to the win. Her ten strikeouts against Washburn are tied for the third-most punchouts in a game by an individual this season in the conference. Additionally, Malone leads the Storm with 20 strikeouts and a 3.56 ERA in two starts and six appearances, and has pitched a team-high 19.2 innings.
 
SCOUTING NO. 7 CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
No. 7 Central Oklahoma is 8-3 through its first 11 games, but recently saw a 9-3 defeat to No. 24 Oklahoma Baptist in its first round of games at the Cherokee Nation Festival. UCO has leaned on a one-two punch in the circle, led by Carleigh Kinnaird with a 4.04 ERA in 34.2 innings, and has recorded 49 strikeouts and two complete games. At the plate, Central Oklahoma has quickly racked up 29 doubles this season and is led by Jenna Jobe with six two-base hits, while batting .371 with 13 total hits.
 
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN STATE
The Riverhawks have been near flawless to start the season with seven wins and two defeats after earning a 1-0 win over East Central in eight innings. Korynn Tindel leads the NSU lineup with 17 hits on a blistering .531 average, and has racked up seven doubles, a triple and two home runs. Northeastern State will test the Storm defense on Saturday, as they have 23 stolen bases this season in 27 attempts.
 
SCOUTING NO. 17 MISSOURI SOUTHERN
The No. 17 Lions bested the Storm this past weekend 10-3, as they improved to 10-1 on the year with a 6-1 weekend at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. Missouri Southern has caused chaos this season on the base path with 44 stolen bases, and the Lions have two players with double-digit stolen bases. Taylor Nuckolls is perfect 11-11 in stolen base attempts, while the team's leading hitter, Bailey Dillon, is 10-for-11. Dillon has racked up 20 hits and 14 runs scored on a .513 batting average.
 
SCOUTING WASHBURN
Washburn went 4-1 at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic most recently, with its lone defeat coming at the hands of Southeastern. The Ichabods are 8-2 on the year, with both losses coming against GAC teams. WU is led by Sadie Walker in the circle, who is 4-0 in seven appearances. Walker has recorded a team-high 28 strikeouts across 25.2 frames and carries a 2.45 ERA with batters hitting .224 against the senior.
