Storm Earn Two Wins in Dallas on Friday

DALLAS – Southeastern gets its first two wins of the 2026 spring season, defeating Western New Mexico and Texas-Permian Basin on Friday.
 
MATCH ONE: SE 4, WNMU 0
Southeastern secured its first win of the season behind four singles wins, and the Storm would win all four matches in straight sets. Sophia Brooks-Gay got the round going with a straight-set win at line six before Emilia O'Neill turned in a 6-1 and 6-2 win at Court 1 to give SE a 2-0 lead.
 
Lilly Shepard followed with a win at Court 4, defeating WNMU's Xaviera Melgar 6-0 and 6-1 to extend the blue and golds' advantage. Kseniya Zhdanok would clinch the match-winning point at line five with another strong performance over the Mustangs Sofjia Krsitc, 6-3 and 6-0.

MATCH TWO:
In the second match of the day, the Storm won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. Brooks-Gay and Amishi Shukla set the tone early with a 6-0 win on Court 1, and Milana Voloshyn and Zhdanok followed shortly with a 6-4 victory from line one.
 
In singles play, a retirement at court four for Southeastern gave UTPB its first point of the match to tie it at 1-all. Shepard quickly broke the deadlock from Court 5, winning 6-2 and 6-4 against UTPB's Mattea Bowe, and gave SE a 2-1 edge.
 
Voloshyn picked up the next point for the Storm to extend their advantage to 3-1 after defeating Sophia Rashid at line two 6-4 and 6-2. Shukla continued the dominant round for Southeastern, providing a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Texas-Permian Basin's Fanny Berstrom. With that win, SE secured the match point to clinch its second win of the day.
