Storm Suffer Set Back Against No. 5 Washburn

EDMOND, Okla. – The Southeastern women's tennis program fell to nationally ranked No. 5 Washburn in a 5-2 contest on Friday morning.
 
The Savage Storm claimed the first doubles match of the day at Court 2 behind the tandem of Amishi Shukla and Sophia Brooks-Gay, defeating Washburn's Daniela Tijaro and Mariana Silva 6-2. However, the Ichbods rattled off back-to-back wins at lines one and three to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
 
No. 5 Washburn carried the early momentum from doubles play into the singles round, picking up three wins in straight sets at No. 5, 1 and 4 to clinch the match. Emilia O'Neill would provide the Storm with their first win of the round at Court 2 with set wins of 6-2 and 6-3 over Daniela Tijaro.
 
Lilly Shepherd rounded out the wins during singles play for SE, defeating WU's Maddie Shelly in 6-7, 6-1 and 1-0 at spot six in the only three-set match of the round. Shepherd and the Storm (3-6) return home on Sunday, March 22, at 11 a.m. to host Lubbock Christian.
