DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern gets back on the road looking to turn back-to-back victories into a winning streak when it faces Arkansas-Monticello at 3 p.m. on Oct. 27 in Monticello, Ark.
The Savage Storm come into the weekend off a 26-16 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State that moved SE to 3-4 overall on the year and gave the team its first conference win. The Boll Weevils enter Saturday's matchup in the midst of a seven-game losing streak after a 24-21 loss to Arkansas Tech a week ago.
Southeastern vs. Arkansas-Monticello Game Notes
Against the Boll Weevils… Saturday marks just the 3rd meeting all-time between Southeastern and Arkansas-Monticello, making it the least played rivalry on SE's 2012 schedule. The series got its started in 1979 with a 41-7 win for UAM. The series would then wait 32 years to be renewed in the 2011 season when UAM jumped out to an early 17-3 lead and held off an SE rally to win 24-20 and move to 2-0 in the series.
Southeastern celebrates 100th season of football… The 2012 season will mark the 100th season of competition for SE football which fielded its first team in 1909. Southeastern has fielded a team every year since then except for the span between 1943 and 1945 during World War II. SE has played 946 games over that span, posting a 452-450-44 record.
Notes from last time out… SE won consecutive games for the first time since the first two contests of the 2011 season with a 26-16 win over SWOSU... SE moved its all-time record against SWOSU to 43-35-3... SE has never trailed in any of its three wins... SE had its third-straight game with more than 250 yards rushing and its fourth overall ont he year... the SE defense held SWOSU to less than 125 yards rushing, markign the second-straight game that has been done and the fourth game overall... SE forced three turnovers against SWOSU and is plus-six in turnover margin ont he season.
About the Coaches… Ray Richards (Northern Michigan, 1981) took over the reins for the Southeastern Oklahoma State football program prior to the 2005 season and quickly built on to SE's successful history. Richards has compiled a 36-37 record at SE and an overall career record of 50-67, with head coaching stints at Southeastern and Southwest Baptist University. The 2011 squad opened the year with back-to-back wins before going to a 2-8 season and a ninth place finish in the first season of Great American Conference play. SE had three all conference award winners, highlighted by first team selection Ryan Shelley who turned in the league's best single-game receiving mark with 225 yards against East Central. In seven seasons at SE, Richards' teams have produced 25 first team all-conference honors as well as 37 all-conference second team honors. His teams also won eight specialty awards in the LSC, including his own Coach of the Year nod following the 2005 season.
Hud Jackson was named UAM's 25th head football coach on his 43rd birthday, December 14, 2010. He led the Boll Weevils to a 5-6 record during his first year in the green and white, including a stunning 23-9 victory over then ranked No. 4 Valdosta State in the fifth week of the season. He guided the Boll Weevils to a fourth place finish in the first year of the Great American Conference after the league's head coaches picked UAM to finish last. Prior to taking the UAM job, Jackson had served the previous six seasons as associate head coach at University of Central Arkansas, a member of the NCAA Division I-Football Championship Subdivision. Prior to joining the staff at UCA, Jackson served a variety of roles at Central Catholic High School in Morgan City, La. from 1997-2005.
