SE Set to Face No. 24 HSU

DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern will be back on the road to face preseason GAC favorite No. 24 Henderson State at 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark.

GAME NOTES


The Savage Storm are coming off a disappointing 31-24 loss to Southern Arkansas in which the team saw a 14-point lead disappear in the final minutes of the third quarter on its home field.  In contrast, HSU comes into the contest off its third-straight win to open the year, a 73-34 track meet victory over Arkansas Tech.
 
Against the Reddies… Saturday marks the 22nd meeting all-time between Southeastern and Henderson State.  The series dates back to a 1922 meeting which SE won 12-0.  SE would win teo more in-a-row in 1934 and 1935, but HSU put together a nine-game winning streak and following wins int he last two outings, including a 30-14 win in last year's meeting in Durant, HSU owns a 15-7 advantage in the all-time record.

Southeastern celebrates 100th season of football… The 2012 seaosn will mark the 100th season of competition for SE football which fielded its first team in 1909.  Southeastern has fielded a team every year since then except for the span between 1943 and 1945 during World War II.  SE has played 946 games over that span, posting a 452-450-44 record.

Notes from last time out… dropped its home opener to Southern Arkansas 31-24... SE held the advantage in total yards (423-to-299) and time-of-possession (35:01-to-24:59)... SE was a perfect 2-for-2 in the redzone... Quentin Morris turned int he best receiving outing of the young season with 113 yards and two TD's on five catches, including a 70-yard strike... Jercolby Bradley had his best passing yardage day as a starter, tossing for 299 yards and a pair of scores on 19-of-40 passing... SE's last four drives of the game all ended on downs... Izzy Eziakor registered 11 tackles to lead SE... Matthew Leatherwood and David Lamour each collected interceptions... for the second week SE won the turnover battle, forcing four SAU turnovers while only committing two.

About the Coaches… Ray Richards (Northern Michigan, 1981) took over the reins for the Southeastern Oklahoma State football program prior to the 2005 season and quickly built on to SE's successful history.  Richards has compiled a 36-37 record at SE and an overall career record of 50-67, with head coaching stints at Southeastern and Southwest Baptist University.  The 2011 squad opened the year with back-to-back wins before going to a 2-8 season and a ninth place finish in the first season of Great American Conference play.  SE had three all conference award winners, highlighted by first team selection Ryan Shelley who turned in the league's best single-game receiving mark with 225 yards against East Central.  In seven seasons at SE, Richards' teams have produced 25 first team all-conference honors as well as 37 all-conference second team honors.  His teams also won eight specialty awards in the LSC, including his own Coach of the Year nod following the 2005 season.
   Scott Maxfield (La. Tech) has created and built one of the top offensive programs in the country since taking over as Henderson State head coach in 2005.  Since Maxfield's arrival, 31 players earned All-GSC honors, 15 All-Region selections and 9 All-Americans. The Reddies have consistently ranked in some of the Division II polls for the last four years, and the Reddies have finished with identical 6-2 records in league play (2006, 2007 and 2010).  Maxfield led Blinn College to back-to-back playoff appearances prior to his arrival at Henderson State.  A graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, Maxfield was a four-year letterman at Louisiana Tech University where he played offensive guard and center. After his eligibility was finished, Maxfield served as a student assistant for the Bulldogs before becoming a graduate assistant at Ole Miss.
