ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern was unable to overcome a 29-0 halftime deficit and would go on to fall to No. 24 Henderson State 56-20 on Saturday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Savage Storm slip to 1-2 on the young season and 0-2 in Great American Conference play, while the Reddies improve to 4-0 and 2-0 in league play.
SE will be back in action on Sept. 29 when it hosts No. 13 Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. on Paul Laird Field for homecoming.
Despite the lopsided score, the Storm outgained HSU by more than 200 yards, 573-to-348.
Southeastern split its offense almost perfectly, picking up 291 yards on the ground and adding 282 yards through the air.
The offensive numbers carried over into time-of-possession where the Storm held a whopping 43:05-to-16:55 advantage.
Much of the difference was due to HSU's quick-strike offense that included three special teams scores and another score on defense.
Bradley had the bulk of SE's offense, completing 24-of-35 passes for 211 yards with one interception, while adding 94 yards on the ground with a pair of TD's.
CJ Kirk added 62 yards rushing and a touchdown, while
Ladarius Abrams chipped in 54 yards rushing and
Billy Hashaway turned in 46 yards.
Nick Sioson also chipped in 71 yards on 6-of-9 passing.
Ryan Shelley,
Jordan Mayfield and
Keelen Green each pitched in five receptions, while Mayfield led the way with 80 yards.
Emmanual Jackson led the defense with six tackles, while
Barrett Shirey added a sack and
Izzy Eziakor forced a fumble.
Special teams play bit the Storm for the second-straight week with HSU returning two punts for scores and adding a blocked punt which was returned for another TD.
HSU jumped got on the board first with a two-yard Jarvis Smith TD plunge to cap a 9 play, 67 yard drive.
SE would go three-and-out on the ensuing drive and the Reddies would take advantage with an 85 yard punt return by Robert Jordan to mount a 14-0 advantage with 3:04 to play in the first quarter.
HSU would add scores at the beginning and the end of the second quarter and the Storm would still not find an answer and trail 29-0 at halftime.
The Reddies would extend their lead to 36-0 after a Chuck Obi fumble return for a score with 12:43 to play in the third.
SE would finally find an answer when Bradley scrambled 13 yards for the score to cap a seven-play 91 yard drive.
After a defensive stop, the Storm would cut the deficit to 36-13 when Kirk scored from 11 yards out to cap a 10-play, 66 yard drive with 7:07 to play in the third. A failed PAT would leave the score at 36-13.
HSU would get back on the board two plays later when Kevin Rogers connected with Darius Davis for a 75-yard score that extended the Reddie lead to 42-13 after a failed PAT.
That lead would grow to 49-13 when Jordan returned another punt 69 yards for his second return TD of the contest.
Less than two minutes later HSU's return team would score again, this time following a blocked punt which was picked up by Obi and returned 17 yards for the score and a 56-13 lead.
Bradley would get Southeastern on the board one more time when he ran for a two-yard TD to cap a 12-play, 77 yard drive that took 13:15 off the clock to set the score at 56-20 which would hold to be the final.
