Volleyball Set for Battle of Storms

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will be looking to put together back-to-back wins when it welcomes Southern Nazarene to the court at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
 
The Savage Storm snapped a losing skid in its last match, opening a three-match home stand with a 3-1 win over Northwestern State on Saturday that lifted the team's record to 11-15 overall and 5-6 in Great American Conference play.
 
Tuesday's match is the middle of the three-game home series which culminates on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the home finale against Henderson State which will also serve as senior day for the team's three seniors, Taylor Benner, Kristen Martin and Marina Dias.
 
The 5-6 league record for the Storm currently leaves the team in a tie for seventh in the GAC standings with Southern Arkansas, and those two schools are just a game behind Ouachita Baptist and Southwestern Oklahoma State who are tied for fifth.  SE has three conference games on the schedule counting Tuesday night.
 
Emily Gentle continues to pace the Storm offense with 3.65 kills per set, while Megan Kunkel is chipping in 2.41 and Ariel Sanders 2.00 per set.
 
Madelynne Cera is dishing out 8.27 assists per set to direct the offense, while chipping in with 1.42 kills per set, along with 2.13 digs per set and 27 total blocks.
 
Benner paces that defense along the back row with 3.60 digs per set, while five other average more than two digs per set.
 
At the net, Sander leads the way with 63 total blocks while Gentle has added 51 the year.
 
SNU comes into the midweek matchup at 19-8 on the season and 9-1 in GAC play.
 
The Crimson Storm is led by Taylor Jacobs who is turning in 3.88 kps, while Kaylee Piatt is dishing out a team-high 8.86 assists per set.
 
Defensively Abbey Bell leads the team with 4.02 digs per set, while Jamie Hope has turned in 111 total blocks on the year.
 
This is the second meeting between the two teams this season as SNU handed SE a 3-1 loss in the GAC opener on Sept. 17.
