Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Southeastern pounded out 14 hits, led by a 4-for-5 effort from
Ryan Salter to pick up a 9-6 win over Loyola on day one of the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach South Texas Baseball Classic on Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The win moves SE to 2-0 on the year heading into a 6 p.m. meeting with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday evening.
Salter was nearly unstoppable at the plate on Friday as finished 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Chevis Springer was right behind with a 3-for-5 outing with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
The top of the lineup was outstanding as the Springer-Salter one-two combo posted a combined 7-for-10 performance at the plate with two RBI, four runs scored and four stolen bases.
Tucker Alexander added to that group with a 2-for-5 outing in the three-hole, turning in a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
Trot McCartney also added a pair of RBI and a stolen base.
The Storm sent five players to the hill, with
Canyon Conley getting the start and tossing 1.2 innings while allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts.
Evan Rice came on in relief in the second and threw 3.1 innings with a game-high seven strikeouts while allowing three runs on two hits.
Levi Lewis followed Rice and earned the win in relief after tossing three scoreless innings with three hits and four strikeouts.
Storm Griffin then came on for two-third of the final inning before
Cameron Mann recorded the final out via strikeout.
LU opened with the game's first runs to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
SE came back in the bottom half and got a sac fly from McCartney and a
Trevor Bowen single to tie the game at 2-2.
The teams would then trade runs in the second inning with Alexander driving in
Josh Smith on a single to center.
The Wolf Pack got a two run double in the top of the fourth and once again Southeastern answered with an Alexander RBI double and a McCartney RBI single to knot the game at 5-5.
LU regained the lead in the sixth, but the Storm would tie the game for the fourth time on a
Vance Woodruff single that scored Alexander.
SE would finally jump ahead in the bottom of the seventh inning with
Travis Caraway scoring on a passed ball, followed by a Springer RBI double and a Salter RBI single to fashion the final of 9-6.
