DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will look to get back in the win column and even its record when it travels to the southwest corner of Arkansas to face Ouachita Baptist at 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Â
The Savage Storm head to OBU after dropping a 44-35 home matchup to then-No. 9 Henderson State in a contest that many feel SE had a chance to win down the stretch.
Â
That loss dropped Southeastern to 1-2 on the season and 1-2 in Great American Conference play, and SE would like to even that record up and snap a three-game losing skid to the Tigers.
Â
Despite losing the last three, the games have been remarkably tight as the last four meetings between the schools have each been decided by three points, including last season's 27-24 win by OBU in Durant.
Â
SE's last trip to the Tigers' home field, however, may have been the one that stung the most as the 2003 team opened the season in Arkadelphia with high hopes, but came out on the short end of a 30-27 score in triple overtime.
Â
The series with Ouachita Baptist is one of the longest the Storm have with schools from Arkansas as the two teams have met 49 times beginning with a 0-0 tie in 1913, with OBU holding a 29-16-4 edge all-time.
Â
SE will be looking to get its running game back on track on the legs of
Devlon Wortham and
Ladarius Abrams who have combined to rush for 498 yards over three weeks, including 220 from Wortham in the opening week. The running game hit a snag against HSU, however, rushing for its lowest total of the year with just 39 net yards.
Â
While the running game was slowed against the Reddies, the passing game came out of its shell as
Nick Sioson outdueled, at least in numbers, HSU's All-American Kevin Rodgers as Sioson piled up 377 yards on 34-of-58 passing with four touchdowns. The yardage mark is the fifth-best single game outing by a QB.
Â
He has had a trio of solid targets to throw to as
Anthony Foster,
Kaymon Farmer and
Anthony Gale have averaged five-or-more catches per game each, with Foster and Farmer sitting in the top two spots, respectively, in receptions per game. Foster is also the first receiver since 2006 to have three-straight 100-yard receiving games.
Â
Eric Walker paces a group of nine players with 10-or-more tackles on the year, as he has racked up 16.
Â
Four players each have one interception, none more dramatic than
Logan Russell's 100-yard pick-six against HSU last week.
Â
Chris Rycraw leads OBU on the ground through two games with 187 yards rushing and has four touchdowns, while Benson Jordan has 407 yards through the air and three passing TD's.
Â
Drew White has been his primary target for 12 catches, 174 yard and all three TD's.
Â
The Tigers have a pair of defenders with 14 tackles, but have forced just one turnover in two games.
