SE Posts 4th Place Finish in Opener

TYLER, Texas – Southeastern cross country opened the 2013 season on Friday with a fourth-place finish at the UT-Tyler Invitational in Tyler, Texas.

A total of 11 teams competed in the 5K event, including Great American Conference foe Southern Arkansas.

The fourth place finish is the best finish in a race for the Savage Storm since a third-place finish at the season-opening Bob Gravett Invitational to begin the 2011 season.

Four of SE's five runners were newcomers, with freshman Bailee Weger leading the way with a 16th place finish and a time of 21:56.89.

She finished just under 10 seconds ahead of fellow freshman Haylee Story who crossed with a time of 22:06.40 in 19th place.

Kayle Reaves crossed in 24th place in her first meet since transitioning from basketball to cross country, posting a time of 22:45.10.

Amanda Kirby, also a freshman, finished four spots behind Reaves in 28th after posting a time of 23:18.32.

Shelby Fraser was the only SE runner in the meet who ran in 2012 and the senior posted a time of 25:01.82 and finished in 42nd place.

SAU took first place in the meet, followed by host UT-Tyler.

The Savage Storm will be back in action on Sept. 14 when they head to Arlington, Texas, for the UTA Season Opener hosted by UT-Arlington.
