Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern opened the 2020 season with a 7-2 victory over Texas Woman's, but would suffer a 5-3 loss in game two on Saturday night to end day one at the Arkansas tech Invitational with a split.

The split leaves the Savage Storm at 1-1 on the year heading into day two of the event which will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday against Texas A&M-International before ending with a 12:30 p.m. matchup with St. Mary's.

In the season opener,
Katie McCullar logged the victory after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Â
Ashley Hedrick picked up the save in her first appearance for the Storm, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts.

At the plate
Symphoni Shomo went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases, while
Kamarie Wallace connected on a pair of hits as well.

Kyia Monawhee collected a triple and drove in two runs, while
Kady Fryrear also tripled.

Karsyn Brigance and
Ivy Amador each added an RBI.

Brigance put SE on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a squeeze bunt that plated Shomo for a 1-0 lead.

TWU would finally answer in the fifth inning with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

Monawhee would break the tie in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run triple that scored Brigance and
Bailey Beard.

Amador would tack on another run with a single in the sixth, followed in the same inning by an RBI single by Shomo who would eventually come around to score on a throwing error to stake the Storm to a 7-1 lead.

The Pioneers would add a run in the top of the seventh to fashion the final of 7-2.

In game two UTPB jumped got on the board first with three runs in the first and two more in the second inning, taking advantage of run-scoring triples in each inning to mount a 5-0 lead.

SE answered in the top of the third inning, cashing in on back to back Falcon errors which allowed
Brittany Chatellier and
Tena Spoolstra to score, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

The Storm would strand runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Storm would get another run in the top of the seventh on a Monawhee RBI double, scoring Shomo, but that was where the SE rally would end, leaving the final 5-3.

Brigance, Fryrear, and Chatellier each collected a pair of hits while Shomo,
Tena Spoolstra, Monawhee, and
Augusta Duty each added one.

Monawhee collected the lone RBI for the Storm.

Amberlyn Walsworth was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in an inning of work.

Kennedy Salyers tossed 1.1 innings in relief and allowed a hit before Hedrick entered to throw the final 3.2 innings, scattering two hits while striking out four.
