SE Set to Host HSU in Battle of Unbeatens

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will put its perfect record on the line against the Great American Conference's only other unbeaten when it welcomes No. 13 Henderson State to Paul Laird Field on Oct. 2 for a 2 p.m. battle for the conference lead.
 
The Savage Storm are coming off a 31-10 road win over Southern Nazarene in which the team jumped out to a three-score lead and never looked back to move to 4-0 on the season.
 
The Reddies on the other hand rallied from a 28-0 first quarter deficit with 35 second-quarter points on its way to a 56-49 win over Southern Arkansas in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
Southeastern did most of its damage last week on the ground and on the season has averaged 164.3 yards per game as a team, led by the three-headed monster backfield of CJ Shavers, Deundre Wheeler, and Ryan Taylor.
 
Shavers leads the way in yardage with 283 yards on 44 carries with a touchdown, while Wheeler has 194 and a team-best five touchdowns. Taylor has the team's longest run of the year, a 57 yard breakaway, and has piled up 149 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown.
 
Daulton Hatley had his lowest output of the season in his last outing but still tossed a pair of touchdowns and on the season has averaged 246.0 yards per game through the air while completing 63.1 percent of his passes, including eight touchdowns.
 
He has spread the ball around a talented group of receivers, with Katrell Blakely pacing the group in grabs with 20 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown, while Braxton Kincade has a team-best four receiving TD's on 17 catches with 211 yards.
 
Marquis Gray leads the team in yardage with 249 yards on 10 catches with a score, and Duce Pittman has added 198 yards on 13 grabs with a touchdown.
 
Defensively, SE has been lights out against the pass, allowing just 156.3 yards per game through the air, with Ke'Shawn Somerville leading the defense with five pass breakups while Jeremiah Baltrip and Josh Mulumba have two each.
 
Overall, Scooter Baker leads the team in tackles with 21, while Maalik Hall is right behind with 19 stops and a league-best seven tackles for loss. Hall also added an 81 yard fumble return in his last outing.
 
HSU is averaging 50.0 ppg on the year and has done most of its damage through the air where it is averaging 293.5 yards per game, led by Adam Morse who has completed 65.9 percent of his passes for that number along with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
 
L'liott Curry has been his top target on the year with 32 catches for 513 yards and six touchdowns.
 
Duce Sproles leads the team on the ground with 273 yards on 49 carries with four touchdowns.
 
Jacob Greenfield leads the team's defense with 27 tackles, while Dedric O'Bryant has a pair of picks and four pass breakups to go with 23 stops.
