DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern is set to make its final road trip into Arkansas while looking to extend its current winning streak when it takes on Arkansas-Monticello on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. in Monticello, Ark.
Â
The Savage Storm have won three-straight to improve their record to 5-3 on the season, scoring 47.0 ppg over that span.
Â
SE owns a 7-4 record versus UAM, having won six of the last seven, including a 34-14 win last season.
Â
Southeastern has used its prolific passing game to climb to the number two scoring offense in the Great American Conference, led by
Daulton Hatley who is averaging 304.4 yards per game through the air while completing 66.9 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns. He comes into the contest less than 100 yards behind Drew Beard for number two on SE's career passing yardage list and also has his eyes set on the career passing touchdowns mark which he trails by just three.
Â
Much of Hatley's success this season has been on the sure hands of
Marquis Gray who is second in the nation in receiving yards with 1,000 on the year while leading the country in receiving touchdowns with 13. He too has eyes for the record books as he has already put up just the fifth 1,000-yard receiving season in school history and has tied the record for receiving touchdowns in a season with 13. He is currently 158 yards from catching Romar Crenshaw's season-record of 1,158 yards.
Â
SE has bolstered its running attack in recent weeks, with
Deundre Wheeler turning in his fourth 100-yard rushing outing last week, while the team has lifted its rushing average to 139.0 yards per game behind Wheeler's team-best 82.0 ypg with 10 touchdowns.
Â
The Storm defense has also climbed the league rankings, moving to fifth in scoring by holding opponents to 31.1 ppg, including 10.5 per game over the last two outings. The Storm is fourth in total defense while ranking second in its ability to stop the pass and sixth in stopping the run. SE has been the league's best team at keeping opponents from converting on third-down, holding foes to a 35.7 percent conversion rate.
Â
UAM comes into the weekend looking to replace its starting quarterback and leading rusher and passer Demilon Brown who suffered an injury in last week's game, leaving the quarterbacking duties to Edwin Kleinpeter who finished last week's game 16-of-27 for 266 and three touchdowns after coming on in relief of Brown.
Â
Jonero Scott is the team's leading rusher with Brown out, posting 648 yards and four touchdowns on a team-leading 144 carries.
Â
LaCedric Smith is the team's leading receiver with 563 yards and five scores on 26 catches.
Â
Kaytron Allen leads the Boll Weevil defense with 68 tackles and has snagged a team-best five interceptions. Alfernee Hankins has logged a team-leading 2.5 sacks while Damarous White has 6.5 tackles for loss.
