DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis head coach
Brian Nelson has announced a trio of signees as Milana Voloshyn, Amishi Shukla, and Jou Chen Chen will be joining the Savage Storm beginning in the spring of 2024.
Voloshyn and Shukla will be coming to SE as true freshmen while Chen will be transferring in as a junior after two seasons at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
"Adding these three ladies is huge for our program," said Nelson. "Not only did we return all six women from the 2023 GAC Championship team for this year, we added two strong individuals this fall with juco transfers Larissa Giraldi and
Margaryta Bugaienko from Collin College. Now adding three more high level ladies will bring us to 11 women on the team. We will have a lot of depth, and even with injuries, sickness, we will not drop off much and should have a great opportunity to have a very successful spring season. I expect all three girls to contribute a lot in both singles and doubles. The spring season is just two months away, and we look forward to getting the new ladies to campus and mesh with our current squad to get to work."
Voloshyn will be entering the Spring semester as a true freshman from Lviv, Ukraine. She carries a UTR rating of 8.15.
Shukla will be also be entering the Spring semester as a true freshman from Indore, India. She owns a UTR rating of 8.05.
"These two right-handers will add great depth to both the singles and doubles lineups," added Nelson.
Chen will be entering the Spring semester as a Junior and has a UTR rating of 8.13. a Native of Taiwan, she spent her Freshman and Sophomore seasons at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC).
There she was ranked as high as # 8 in NJCAA in singles and as high as #2 in NJCAA in doubles. Chen finished the 2023 Spring season as the NJCAA National Runner up in doubles, earning her NJCAA All-American status for the 2022-23 season.
She also was the National Runner up at the 2022 Fall ITA Cup with partner Nicole Dufour, as well as making the ITA Cup in 2021 in both singles and doubles while at ABAC.
"She will be a great addition to the team and will compete for a top doubles position, as well as add depth in the singles lineup," added Nelson.
