SE Closes Fall Semester with NWOSU Rodeo

ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern rodeo closed out the fall semester with a trip to Alva, Okla., which saw the men improve their Central Plains Region standings to third while the women currently sit in fourth.
 
The Southeastern men's team has been plagued by injuries this semester with four of the team's five bareback riders sitting out of all or multiple competitions this semester.  
 
In Alva, Se had a pair of riders in the bareback reach the finals.
 
Owen Brouillette turned in a 66-point score, placing fifth in qualifying before coming back with an 80 in the finals to turn in a second-place finish.  He would end the weekend with a solid fourth place finish in the average and currently sits fifth in the region standings.  Brouillette was able to secure his 1st region win at the Savage Storm rodeo competition. 
 
Denton Jacobson turned a 60-point score in the long-go and came back with a stronger horse turning in a score of 78 in the finals for a fifth-place finish.  He is currently ranked eighth in the region standings and looking forward to being healthier in the Spring semester.
 
The region standings also include Bryden Tyrer, who has competed in 2-out-of-4 competitions this semester, in sixth place and Montana Duvall, who has made one-of-four competitions, in seventh place.
 
Luke Thrash is looking forward to a comeback in the Spring semester after he was injured in June competing during a Pro Rodeo event. He is scheduled to be released in late November this semester to compete again. 
 
SE rodeo relies on Caleb Meeks in the saddle bronc riding where he was leading the event in the region standings until the last competition.
 
Meeks turned in a score of 79 points to win the long round, but he was unable to make the whistle in the finals, taking a no score, but was still able to finish the weekend in third place.
 
He finished the semester in second place regionally thanks in part to a first-place finish as Southeastern's home rodeo.
 
Caden Bunch rounds out the semester sitting in ninth place in the region placing with just one competition not conflicting with his Pro Bull Riding schedule.
 
The timed event end of the arena has seen success in all three men's timed events, with Levi James leading the men's team with most accumulated total points in the team roping event.
 
James and partner Garrett Hughes from Murray State College ended the NWOSU competition with a third place finish after turning in a 5.3 to finish second place in the long round followed by an 8.4 in the finals to finish third.
 
The duo will start the Spring semester leading the team roping standings regionally.
 
In the steer wrestling event Traden Anderson saw success over the weekend, stopping the clock with a 3.7 to finish second in the long round.  He would have some tough luck in the short round, taking a a no time.
 
Anderson ends the Fall season ranked ninth in the region while Rowdy Nimrod is in 14th in the steer wrestling.
 
In the tie down roping, Nimrod is currently ninth and Jarvis Demrey is in 10th regionally as both saw success this semester.
 
Nimrod had his best showing at the Oklahoma State Rodeo, placing second, while Demrey placed seventh at Colby Community College and second at the Savage Storm Rodeo. 
 
The women's side of competition was plagued by inconsistencies throughout the semester.
 
The barrel racing leads the pack with the most currently in the region standings. 
 
Casey Mathis leads that group with the highest placing regionally, sitting in fifth in the barrel racing. 
 
Mathis saw success in the long round of NWOSU followed by four other SE rodeo competitors qualifying to the finals in the barrel racing. 
 
Mataya Eklund saw her first finals of the Fall semester in the barrel racing, opening her competition with a third place finish on a time of 13.1. She followed that with a run of 13.24 in the finals to finish fourth in the round and moved to third in the average.  That finish would lift her to eighth regionally following the competition. 
 
Mathis stopped the clock with a 13.17 placing fourth in the long go before following up with a 14.69 in the finals which took her out of the average competition at NWOSU.  She ends the semester ranked fifth regionally on the strength of her second-place finish during the Savage Storm rodeo.
  
Kayla Earnhardt stopped the clock with a 13.28 to place sixth in the long round of competition before coming back with a time of 13.42 which was good for sixth in the finals and moved her to fifth place int eh average for the weekend.
 
Avery Moyer qualified to the finals at NWOSU and ended the weekend with a 7th place finish.  Moyer closes the Fall sitting in 13th place regionally, with her best outing coming at the CCC college rodeo where she fininshed fourth.  
 
Mollie Bassett qualified to the short round with a 13.5 and came back clocking a 13.8 placing 8th in the finals and in the average for the weekend. 
 
Jaiden Wilmoth ends the semester in 14th position regionally having her best showing at the Savage Storm rodeo placing fourth as well.
 
The Goat Tying competition currently is paced by Jessie Ishmael who is holding onto sixth-place regionally, while Kayleah Hurst is in eighth, and Grace Collins is in 10th position.
   
The NWOSU competition saw Grace Collins put two runs together with a 7.0 in the first rd. followed by a 6.9 in the finals placing sixth in the round. Collins ended the weekend with a 13.9 in 6th place in the average.  Regionally she had success as well during the OSU competition placing fourth. 
Kayleah Hurst turned in a 6.8 placing 6th in the first rd. and in the final round her goat didn't stay tied and she received a no time.  Regionally Kayleah saw success during her home competition placing third at the Savage Storm competition.
 
Ishmael had a 5th place finish at the Savage Storm competition and a 6th place finish at OSU to help lift her to her sixth-place spot in the region. 
 
In the breakaway roping during NWOSU, Laney Hoffman stopped the clock with a 2.7 for a seventh-place finish in the first round but had some tough luck in the short go and come up with a no time. 
 
Regionally Bailey Lester ends the semester with an eleventh place finish while Laney Hoffman is in 14th position in the breakaway roping. 
 
SE rodeo will return to action Feb. 16th-18th for the Kansas State rode in Manhattan, Kan.
