ANDOVER, Kan. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's golf team is fifth at the end of the first round at the Newman Invitational with a score of 47-over 331.
GAC-foes Northwestern Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 30-over 314, with just six strokes separating the top four teams. Southeastern holds a three-stroke advantage over Newman, who is sixth, and a 15-stroke edge over Barton Community College.
Carley Button put in an impressive round one, as she leads the 40-player field at 1-over 72, which is the best individual round record by an SE player. Button tallied two birdies during the round and shot even-par on the back nine after going 1-over on the front half.
Lucy Handley turned in the next-best score on the day, shooting 10-over 81 with a pair of birdies to end the day tied for 13
th.
Karen Kim (T27
th) carded a 15-over 86 across the 18 holes, while
Hailey Richard shot 21-over 94 to finish the round 33
rd.
Hope Walthall wrapped up the first day of action at 27-over 98 and is tied for 38
th individually.
Southeastern will look to move up the leaderboard on the final day of play tomorrow from the Par 71 Terradyne Country Club.
