Women's Rodeo Dominates at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Southeastern women's rodeo put together their best performance of the season as Hannah Giger posted three of the team's eight finals qualifications en route to a first-place finish for the women's team at the Kansas State Rodeo in Manhattan, Kan.
 
The Savage Storm piled up 430 points in the event, besting the second-place finisher by 300 points.
 
Giger earned the All-Around championship for the weekend after qualifying for the finals in all three women's events.
 
She posted her most dominant performance in the breakaway where she picked up a win in the first go with a run of 2.0. That was followed with a finals run of 2.2 which was the top mark in that round, ultimately earning her the win in the average as well by just over two full seconds.
 
Kaitlyn Hooper joined her in the finals of the breakaway roping, splitting sixth in the first round with a 3.1 before coming back in the finals with a 3.2 to split second/third, bringing her to 6.3 for the weekend which was good for second behind Giger.
 
Giger advanced to the finals in the barrel racing and was joined there by Mataya Eklund and Casey Mathis.
 
Mathis would run the event from start to finish, posting an 11.84 in the first round to win the round and reach the finals. In the finals she turned around and clocked an 11.88 which was again the fastest time, earning her the win in the finals and the average.
 
Giger reached the finals with a time of 12.43 which was good for ninth in the opening round and came back with a 12.81 in the finals to finish fifth, moving up to sixth in the average.
 
Eklund opened her barrel run with a 12.24 in the first round, finishing third before coming back in the second round with a 17.66 to finish seventh in the round and the average.
 
Jillian Presley and Kayla Earnhardt joined Giger in the finals of the goat tying.
 
Presley led the group with a 6.4 in the first round which was good for third place in the round. She would come back with a 6.6 in the finals to split second/third and move up to first place in the average.
 
Earnhardt was next in line overall, first posting a 7.4 in the long-go to split 10th before coming back with a 6.2 in the finals to win that round and move to third/fourth in the average.
 
Giger opened the first round with a seventh-place finish in round one with a time of 6.9. In the finals she added an 8.8 which was good for eighth in the round and eighth in the average.
