RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's golf program was voted eighth in the 2024-25 Great American Conference Preseason Poll.
The defending GAC Champions, Henderson State, led the poll with 75 points and five first-place tallies. Southwestern Oklahoma State followed closely in second place, garnering 71 votes and three first-place nods. Harding received the final two first-place tallies and earned 69 total points to round out the top three.
Southeastern checks in at eighth on the preseason poll with 28 votes, tied with Northwestern Oklahoma State. Just ahead of the pair is Southern Nazarene in sixth with 33 points and Oklahoma Baptist in fifth with 49 tallies. Rounding out the poll, Southern Arkansas (22) is ninth and Arkansas-Monticello (18) is tenth.
In 2023-24, the SE women's golf team completed its first season after the program was announced in the fall of 2022. The Savage Storm played in nine events across the year before heading to the GAC Championship, where the team finished seventh with a three-round score of 115-over 979.
The Storm return five players from last season's squad. Among the returners,
Carley Button and
Hailey Richard played in all nine events last year, while Button carried the best stroke average on the team (80.45). Joining the pair,
Karen Kim,
Lucy Handley and
Hope Walthall combined for 34 rounds of play in 2023-24, with Kim and Handley also seeing action in the GAC Championship rounds.
Southeastern begins its fall season on Monday, Sept. 9, at the NSU Golf Classic, hosted by Northeastern State at the Muskogee Country Club. The Storm will compete in four events in the fall semester, wrapping up with the Tulsa Cup on Oct. 28 and 29 before heading to winter break.
