MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's golf team finishes its first tournament of the season in 16
th place at NSU Women's Classic. Across two rounds, the Storm shot 65-over 633 after posting a 30-over 314 in the first round and 35-over 319 in the second.
Taking first place, Roger State won with a team score of five-over 573, followed by Arkansas-Fort Smith (2nd) and Harding (3rd) with scores of 14-over 582 and 22-over 590, respectively. GAC rivals No. 14 Henderson State finished in fourth after posting a score of 27-over 595 and Southwestern Oklahoma State would round out the top five with a final score of 28-over 596.
Carley Button paced the SE five-bag, carding a 36-hole score of nine-over 151, and finished tied for 25
th. The Denton, Texas native started the event with a three-over 74 in the first round after going two-over on the front nine and one-over on the back half with a birdie. Button rounded out the tournament with a 6-over 74 in the last round.
Karen Kim turned in the next-best score for Southeastern, shooting 15-over 157 to finish tied for 56
th. The Richardson, Texas native posted her lowest round of the event on the first day, recording a seven-over 78. Two shots back of Kim,
Lucy Handley (T69
th) turned in a 17-over 159 for the event. Handley saw her best play on day two, shooting 7-over 78 with two birdies.
Rounding out the blue-and-gold five-bag,
Hailey Richard (T83
rd) and
Hope Walthall (T101
st ) posted scores of 24-over 166 and 39-over181, respectively. Southeastern Oklahoma State is back in action on Oct. 7 and 8 at the Central Regional Preview at the Golf Club of Edmond in Edmond, Okla.
