Wallis, Rowe Pace SE at Owen Hewett Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – Led by Samantha Wallis and Madison Rowe, Southeastern posted a top-five finish in the open competition and a top-10 effort in the invite, combining to finish eighth out of 22 teams at the Owen Hewett Invitational in Norman, Okla.
 
The Savage Storm were fifth among division II schools and posted the top finish of any Great American Conference program, beating out Southern Nazarene, Oklahoma Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma State, finishing with 52.6 points for the meet.
 
Wallis would provide the largest score as she picked up an event championship in the open shot put on a throw of 12.87 meters, and provided more points with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 14.49 meters.
 
Rowe would set the 400-meter indoor record for the second-straight meet, finishing fourth in the 400-meter invite section with a converted time of 58.77.
 
She would add a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter invite section with a time of 27.71.
 
In the field events, Chenelle Chandler joined Wallis in the top 10 in the shot put, finishing 10th with a toss of 12.80 meters.
 
Mildred Medina and Jada Johnson would also post top-10 finishes in the high jump, with Medina clearing 1.46 meters to finish sixth while Johnson was 10th at 1.41 meters.
 
In the sprints, SE would send three runners to the finals in the 60 meters, with Je'Mela Harris finishing fifth in the finals with an 8.00 run, followed by Jaiden Leighton in ninth at 8.10, and Ashton Carter in 12th with a time of 8.21.
 
The Storm also sent three qualifiers through in the open 60-meter hurdles, where Keyana Brewer would lead the way with a time of 9.95 to finish sixth, followed by Johnson in ninth with a run of 10.01, and Kelsey Sawyer in 11th with a 10.34.
 
In the open edition of the 200 meters Southeastern featured three top-10 finishes as Leighton was seventh with a 26.55, Andria Williams was eighth at 26.79, and Ashton Carter was ninth at 26.98.
 
In the 400 meter invite section, Kaitlyn Cedillo would join Rowe in the top-10, turning in a sixth-place finish with a run of 1:01.01.
 
Katlen Clem would post a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters with a run of 2:28.00, while Ashlynn Barrett was 10th with a time of 2:29.79.
 
SE would add a pair of top-10 finishes in both the invite and the open sections of the mile run.
 
In the invite section Rayla Castillo turned in an eighth place run at 5:39.99, while Anjelica Abraham was 10th with a time of 5:46.53.
 
In the open competition, Alexis Longoria posted a fourth-place finish on a run of 5:31.93, while Clem came back and added an eighth-place finish and a time of 5:43.02.
 
Abraham would then add a ninth-place finish in the 3000 meter with a time of 11:40.72.
 
The 4x400meter relay squad of Williams, La'Najah Ticey, Tailynn Higginbotham, and Cedillo would round out the meet with a sixth-place finish, turning in a run of 4:09.38
