TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State women's tennis starts the 2025 season off with the program's first-ever sweep over Northeastern State, defeating the Riverhawks 7-0.
The Savage Storm got the match going with a doubles win from No. 3, as the partnership of
Emilse Ruiz and
Amishi Shukla took a 6-2 win.
Larissa Giraldi Correa and
Sara Gonzalez followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 before the doubles team of
Jou Chen Chen and
Carol Mora picked up a win at No. 1 7-5.
The reigning GAC Newcomer of the Year, Giraldi Correa made it 2-0 for SE with an early 6-1 and 6-0 singles win at No. 3. Gonzalez was next to finish for the Storm, winning 12 of the 15 games at No. 6 for the 6-2, 6-1 win, while Ruiz turned a win at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-0.
First-year player Mora won her match at No. 1 6-1 and 6-4, and Shukla and
Milana Voloshyn would pick wins at No. 5 and No. 2, respectively. Shulka defeated Northeastern State's Barbora Havlova 7-6, 6-1, and Voloshyn would earn the win over NSU's Tegan Heaton in the tie-breaker set.
Southeastern (1-0) returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. in Richardson, Texas, for a road match at UT Dallas.
