Casey Mathis and
Kieley Walz dominated their events to help lift Southeastern's women's rodeo team to a team championship at the Ft. Scott CC Rodeo over the weekend.

Mathis and Walz each maxed their points in their events, with Mathis wining the barrel racing while Walz took the breakaway roping.

Mathis led a duo of finalists in the barrel racing as she clocked a 13.34 to win the first round and followed with a 13.25 in the finals to win that round as well, locking up her event championship.

Laney Hoffman joined her in the finals, turning in a 13.51 to finish third in the long-go before adding a fifth-place finish in the finals on a run of 13.59, moving her to third in the average overall.

Walz dropped a blink-and-you'll-miss-it time of 1.7 in the first round to take the top spot, and despite slowing to a 2.7 in the finals, was still able to secure the top position again, locking up the average championship.

Mollie Bassett joined her in the finals, splitting second place with a first round run of 2.4 before finishing sixth in the finals with a 4.5, moving her to sixth in the average.

The Storm also sent three to the finals in the goat tying, with
Grace Collins leading that charge, making the finals on a run of 7.6 which was good for fifth in the first round. In the finals she posted a 7.3 which was good for second, lifting her to second place in the average.

Kayleah Hurst clocked a 7.9 in the first round to make the finals after a seventh-place finish, and matched her seventh-place finish in the finals with a run of 8.4, moving her to a fifth-place finish in the average.

Emma Ricke also turned in a 7.6 in the first round to make the finals, but a 10.2 in the short-go dropped her out of the average.

Southeastern rodeo will be back in action when it travels to Gaden City, Kan., April 4-6 for the Garden City CC Rodeo.
