DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern moves to 3-0 in GAC play with a 6-1 win over Arkansas Tech at home on Friday afternoon.
The Storm opened the doubles round with a quick 6-1 win at No. 2 from the duo of
Tania Sfilio and
Sara Gonzalez.
Amishi Shukla and
Larissa Giraldi Correa followed soon after with a 7-5 from the No. 3 spot to take a 1-0 lead in the match,
Gonzalez carried the momentum over from the doubles round into singles play, as she extended the edge to 2-0 in the contest with a 6-2 and 6-1 win at court four.
Jou Chen Chen soon put the blue and gold within striking distance of winning the match with victory at No. 3 over ATU's Natalya Montoya 6-2 and 6-3. Providing the match-clinching point, Correa won in straight sets at No. 2, and Sfilio would make it 5-0 with a three-set win from No. 5.
Shukla finished off the day with a back-and-forth match with the Gold Suns Melanie Griffiths at No. 6, winning 7-6 and 7-5. Southeastern (13-3, 3-0) returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 17, with a road match at Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m.
