SE Falls in Back-and-Forth Opener at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – The Southeastern women's tennis program looked to rally against Cameron in the singles round, but the Savage Storm would come up short on the road in their opener, 4-3.
 
SE trailed in the match at the end of the doubles play, as Cameron secured wins at courts one and three by scores of 7-5 to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Storm responded in the singles round with a strong start by Kseniya Zhdanok to tie the match 1-1. Zhdanok was locked in a battle early at Court 4 with CU's Nil Kalkavan and would edge out the first set 7-5 before dominating the second for a 6-0 win. However, the Aggies regained the upper hand with a pair of wins at courts one and five to go up  3-1.
 
The blue and gold continued to battle, as Amishi Shukla rallied from a set down to defeat Alexa Garcia at the No. 3 spot 2-6, 7-5 and 6-2 to pull a score back, down 3-2. Southeastern tied the match again at 3-all after Emilia O'Neill won a three-set battle at court two, 6-4, 4-6 and 7-5. The deciding point for the match came down to the third set at Court 6, with SE's Sophia Brooks-Gay falling short to the Aggies 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.
 
Southeastern continues its road stand to begin the season with a trip to Richardson, Texas, on Feb. 13-14. The blue and gold begin play on Friday, Feb. 13, at 9 a.m. against Western New Mexico, followed by a pair of matches on Saturday.
