SE Athletics Hands Out Honors at 2026 SCA's

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern celebrated the 2025-26 sports season on Monday night with the 2026 Southeastern Choice award held at Choctaw Casino and Resort, recognizing a litany of honors including team MVP's, Scholar Athletes, and naming the finalists for the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
 
The event was organized by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and was emceed by SAAC president Kasey Simmons and vice-president Abbie Barr.
 
A total of 13 student-athletes were named as finalists for the Athlete of the Year honors, seven women and six men.
 
Below are the women finalists:
Katlen Clem, Cross Country
Tori Kilburn, Women's Basketball
Kenzli Warden, Women's Basketball
Carley Button, Women's Golf
Madison Rowe, Track and Field
Taniya Burke, Track and Field
Emma Ricke, Rodeo
 
And the men's finalists:
Trinton Jones, Football
JJ Bush, Baseball
Ryan Kirk, Baseball
Carter Olson, Baseball
Waylon Buquoi, Rodeo
Blake Carter, Rodeo
 
Southeastern named its top Scholar-Athletes as well. The women were led by softball's Laci Larsen and women's golf's Carley Button, while on the men's side it was Eric Poindexter from men's tennis.
 
Below is the top-five ranking for both the men and the women:
 
Women:
1st – Laci Larsen, Softball & Carley Button, Women's Golf
2nd - Sarah Coblentz, Cross Country/Track and Field
3rd – Emma Berry, Track and Field
4th - Abigail Barr, Women's Basketball
5th – Susan Edwards, Softball
 
Men:
1st – Eric Poindexter, Men's Tennis
2nd - Levi James, Rodeo
3rd – Gage Dollins, Baseball
4th – Christian Brumley, Football
5th – Ryan Rauss, Baseball
 
Each Savage Storm sports team also named its MVP's on Tuesday night. Below is a list of Southeastern's MVP's by sport:

Cross Country – Katlen Clem
Men's Basketball – Chandler Dickinson
Women's Basketball – Tori Kilburn

Additionally, the SAAC recognized the Southeastern custodial staff responsible for the athletic venues for the tireless work they do in maintaining the areas.
 
Director of Sports Performance Taylor Plaia-Bissell recognized the Sports Performance Athletes of the Year who were Susan Edwards from softball for the women and Jacob Geddes from football for the men.
