DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern welcomes arch-rival East Central to town for a rematch on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium in a match that serves as a finale to the Savage Storm's Dig Pink efforts for the month of October.
The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the volleyball team has partnered with the Medical Center of Southeast Oklahoma as part of the Dig Pink effort.
The squad has been holding an on-campus drive called Get Pink'd in which individuals could donate money towards breast cancer to have someone's door decked out in pink decorations.
On the court, SE is looking to get back in the win column and is currently 2-23 on the season and is in need of a Great American Conference win where the club is 1-9.
The Tigers come to town with a 9-18 mark on the year and a 6-4 record in league play.
The two teams met in Ada, Okla, earlier this season with ECU coming out on the winning end by a 3-1 margin.
Megan Kunkel led the way in that contest for SE with 10 kills, while
Madelynne Cera added 24 assists and 17 digs to lead both categories.
Emily Gentle leads the way on offense for the season, averaging 2.89 kills per set, while Kunkel is right behind with 2.86 kps.
Cera and
Marina Dias share the setting duties and are combining to average 7.22 assists per set. Both are busy elsewhere on the court as well with Cera adding 1.14 kps and 23 blocks, while Dias is averaging 2.30 digs per set.
Taylor Benner leads the way in digs with 3.60 dps, while four others are averaging more than two digs per set.
Jasmine Everage paces the net defense with 57 blocks overall on the year with
Natasha Smith not far behind at 52.
Tatiana Booth leads the Tiger offense with 2.58 kps with Danielle Essix right behind at 2.34 kps.
Jessica Wilkinson and Taylor Brown share the setting duties with Wilkinson posting a 5.94 assists per set average while Brown is at 3.51 aps.
Megan Hammond leads the ECU defense on the back row with 4.04 digs per set, while Hayley Gerken's 96 blocks leads the defense at the net.
