ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern posted a breakout weekend in Alva, Okla., at the Northwestern Oklahoma State rodeo, with the men's team putting together a third place team finish while the women turned in a fifth place finish.
The strong showing moved the men's team to seventh in the Central Plains Region, while the women moved up to sixth regionally.
The event in Alva closes out the Fall season for the Savage Storm.
Ari-Anna Flynn turned in the best outing of the weekend for either side, turning in a third place finish in the long go of the barrel racing before coming back strong in the short go to win the round and the average. Flyn is sitting in sixth place regionally.
Kelsey Hildebrand turned in a 10
th place finish in the barrels.
The men had an even larger showing with riders advancing to the short go in steer wrestling, tie down roping and team roping.
Dillon Holder led the way with second place finishes in the long and the short go in the tie down roping which left him in second in the average. Holder is currently seventh in the region.
Colby Norman turned in a strong finish in the steer wrestling with a third place finish in the long go followed by a fifth place finish in the short go and a fifth place spot in the average. He is currently sitting 12
th in the region.
The Storm had a pair of teams fare well in the team roping.
Brothers Rhett and
Rhyder Nelson turned in third place finishes in the long and short go along with a third place finish in the average.
Ethan Fox and Copper Bruce posted a fifth place finish in the long go, but came in behind the Nelson's in fourth place in both the short go and the average.
The Nelson's are currently sixth in the region standings, while the duo of Fox and Bruce is in 13
th.
