DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern volleyball will put a nine-day layoff behind when it heads to Ada, Okla., on Sept. 20 to face arch-rival East Central in a Great American Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
The Savage Storm are 1-8 on the year and mired in a three-match losing streak following a 3-0 loss to Southern Nazarene on Sept. 11 in the GAC opener for both schools.
The Tigers have not fared tremendously better as they are off to a 3-9 start, but did pick up a 3-2 win in their conference opener at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The SE versus ECU rivalry dates back many years on most sports, but is fairly new in volleyball with the recent addition of the Tiger volleyball program.
In its brief history, Southeastern has dominated the series with a 7-1 record, with the first loss in the four-years coming last season and ending a 7-0 run to open the rivalry.
Emily Gentle has set the offensive pace for Southeastern with 3.50 kills per set which is good for second in the GAC standings, while
Megan Kunkel is currently sixth in the league in kps with 2.93.
Madelynne Cera handles the setting duties and has been all over the court. She averages 6.73 assists per set, but is also averaging 1.07 kps, 2.63 digs per set and has eight blocks on the year.
Taylor Benner leads the back row defense to the tune of 4.30 dps which is sixth-best in the GAC, while
Natasha Smith is has turned in 22.0 total blocks on the year to lead the defense at the net.
ECU is led on offense by Tatiana Booth who is averaging 2.58 kps, while three others average 2.00 or better.
Jessica Wilkinson handles the setting work and averages 6.65 assists per set, while Megan Hammond is picking up 3.82 digs per set and Hayley Gerken is adding 0.96 blocks per set.
