Southeastern Snaps Skid at TSU Tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Southeastern ended a five-game losing skid that opened the season with a 3-2 win over previously unbeaten Texas A&M-Commerce in the second game of the Tarleton Classic in Stephenville, Texas, on Friday evening.

The Savage Storm  opened a 2-0 lead int he match with wins of 26-24 and 25-22 before the Lions evened the score with wins of 25-17 and 25-18 int he third and fourth sets.

SE would finish the contest with a 15-12 win in the deciding set to clinch its first win of the season. 

Emily Gentle turned in a season-high 19 kills and was joined in double figures by Megan Kunkel with 12 kills. 

Madelynne Cera guided the offense with 29 assists and turned in a double-double by leading the back row defense with 19 digs.

SE turned in 78 digs a squad with four players reachign double-digit totals.  Taylor Benner added 17 digs, while Gentle chipped in 15 and Kunkel added 14.

The Storm picked up 7.5 team blocks with Jasmine Everage leading the way with four blocks while Ariel Sanders added three.

SE will be back in action on Saturday with matches against Lubbock Christian at noon and host Tarleton State at 5 p.m.

In the opener earlier int he day, Southeastern recovered over the final two sets but was not able to overtake Incarnate Word in the weekend opener at the Tarleton Classic in Stephenville, Texas, falling 3-0.

The Savage Storm dropped the openeing set 25-15, but closed the gap in each of the next two, falling 25-20 in the second and forcing extra points in the third before falling 26-24.

Gentle led the way on offense with 13 kills, while Kunkel nearly hit double-figures with nine.

Madelynne Cera guided the offense with 27 assists and chipped in two kills and four digs.

Defensively, Marina Dias led the back row with 15 digs while Benner chipped in 13 digs.  Meanwhile, at the net Natasha Smith picked up a pair of blocks while SE finished with 3.0 as a team.
