SE North Bound for MSSU Tourney

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern volleyball will make its final tournament trek outside of conference play when it heads to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern State Tournament to face a bevy of regional foes Oct. 11-12.
 
SE opens with Northwest Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 6 p.m. meeting with the home team Missouri Southern State.  The Storm then faces Emporia State at 9 a.m. on Oct. 12 followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with Washburn to end the weekend.
 
The Savage Storm are coming off a weekend split on one of its toughest conference road trips which included posting a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Arkansas Tech on their court on Friday night.
 
SE found itself in a 2-0 hole on ATU's home court, but rallied in the third set and reeled off wins in the fourth and fifth sets to come out victorious.
 
The Storm are currently 7-7 on the season overall and will play five-straight MIAA foes on the road, four this weekend in Joplin before returning to Oklahoma for a trip to Edmond to face Central Oklahoma on Oct. 15.
 
Southeastern is led on offense by Emily Gentle with 3.85 kills preset, while Megan Kunkel is at 2.91 and Ariel Sanders is just over two per set.
 
The offense is triggered by Madelynne Cera who is dishing out 8.74 assists per set while also adding 1.33 kills per set and 2.26 digs per set.
 
And speaking of digs, Taylor Benner leads the back row defense with 3.60 dps, while Kunkel and Gentle are just under three digs per set.
 
Sanders leads the team at the net with 33 total blocks, while Julia Benford and Gentle re both over 20 on the year.
 
SE opens with NWMSU who is 7-8 on the season, but just snapped a three-match losing streak with a win over Pittsburg State.
 
The Bearcats are led on offense by Abby Graves with 3.53 kills per set, while Bridget Hanafin is dishing out 10.54 assists per set.
 
Bailey Vance leads the defense with 4.36 digs per set.
 
The Lions at 3-12 are in the midst of an eight-match losing streak, while SE will be looking to top MSSU for the second time this season after beating them 3-1 in Pittsburg, Kan., on the opening weekend of the season.
 
Katie Politte has been their bright spot on offense with 3.42 kps.
 
ESU enters the weekend at 8-7 on the season, but have lost four of their last five contests.
 
The Hornets feature five players averaging more than two kills per set, while on the defensive side Kelly Holden is picking up 4.34 digs per set.
 
SE will face its toughest test in the tourney finale when it faces WU.  The Lady Blues are 16-3 on the year and have climbed to No. 13 in the latest AVCA Coach's Poll and are riding a nine-match winning streak.
 
The duo of Marissa Cox and Leanna Willer lead the club on offense, each averaging better than three kills per set, while Abby Wittman is dishing out 10.79 assists per set.  Kelsey Lewis leads the back row with 4.32 dps, while Sarah Vicory has picked up 61 blocks on the season.
