Volleyball Falls at SWOSU in Finale

Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a slow start, falling behind 2-0, and were unable to mount a rally on Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State in the regular season finale in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 13-17 overall and 7-7 in Great American Conference play, locking them into the No. 6 seed heading into the conference tournament set for Nov. 21-23 in Hot Springs, Ark. 
 
SE will face East Central in the first round of the tournament in the noon match on Nov. 21.
 
Emily Gentle bounced back with a 12 kill effort, while Megan Kunkel was right behind with 11.  Courtney Miller chipped in nine and Julia Benford seven.
 
Madelynne Cera dished out 34 assists, while also putting up five kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
 
On defense, Taylor Benner posted 17 digs on the night, while Kunkel and Gentle each completed double-doubles with 13 and 12, respectively.
 
The Storm posted nine team blocks, with Benford putting up four of them.
 
The first set was a nightmare for SE as they hit in the negative for the set while the Bulldogs on the other hand posted its best set of the night at .381 to hand SE a 25-14 loss.
 
SWOSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second, but the Storm would slowly rally, twice tying the score, once at 17-17 and again at 19-19, but the Bulldogs would finish the set on a 6-2 run to hand SE a 25-21 loss.
 
A 9-3 start to the third set helped SE begin to mount a comeback, as SWOSU would rally to within one point, but the Storm would hold off the home team for a 25-21 win.
 
The fourth set looked a lot like the third as the Storm ran away early to a 7-1 lead, but SWOSU answered with six straight points to knot the score at 7-7.  The teams would trade runs, with the Bulldogs posting a 7-0 spurt to turn a three point deficit into an 18-14 lead.  Southeastern would close the gap to 24-23, but SWOSU would get the final kill for the 25-23 win and the clincher.
