DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis played three matches over three days, including its Great American Conference opener, posting a 5-4 win over McMurry to open the weekend and a 6-3 win over Henderson State to close it, with a 5-0 loss to Texas-Permian Basin in the middle.

The Savage Storm move to 4-3 overall on the year and 1-0 in Great American conference play heading into a March 5 matchup with Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. at 2 p.m.

In the weekend finishing victory over the Reddies, SE opened with a doubles sweep, with the duo of
Brittany Tobin and
Ilga Racika-Racko winning at number one, followed by
Darija Catipovic and
Conchi Assiego at number two and
Marina Dias and
Elba Haugen at number three.

HSU would bounce back with wins at numbers one and two to close the score to 3-2.

Assiego would pick up a 6-2, 6-2 win at number three, followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win by
Cassaundra Braaten at number four to clinch the match and make the score 5-2.

Haugen would pick up a 6-1, 6-0 win at number five, but HSU would answer with a win in the number six slot to fashion the 6-3 final score.

While the conference opener was a home match for the Storm, the first two matches of the weekend were played in Abilene, Texas at McMurry.

The host got the jump in their matchup by taking two of three doubles matches.

Catipovic and Assiego picked up the team's lone doubles with, taking an 8-3 decision at number two.

The War Hawks stretched that lead to 3-1 with a win at number one, but the Storm responded with Catipovic picking up a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at number two and Assiego taking a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three to even the score at 3-3.

McMurry would snag a win at number four, but Haugen answered with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number five and Tobin closed out the 5-4 win with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at number six.

The Storm fell behind early in the loss to UTPB, dropping all three doubles matches.

That momentum carried over for the Falcons as SE dropped matches at numbers one and two to see the match slip away in a 5-0 loss.
