Savage Storm Sweep Trio of GAC Foes

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – No. 41 Southeastern picked up its eighth-straight win and stayed perfect in Great American Conference play by taking all three league matchups over the weekend, first downing Arkansas Tech 7-2, followed by a 5-0 win over Ouachita Baptist before closing the weekend with a 5-4 win over Henderson State.
 
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in league play.
 
In the weekend opener versus the Golden Suns, SE opened with a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Alexsandra Reljic and Darija Catipovic opened with an 8-6 win at one doubles.
 
Anna Buiukian and Samantha Coquinos followed suit at two doubles with a matching 8-6 victory which allowed the Storm to head to singles play with the advantage.
 
Reljic got the single started with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top spot, with Buiukian right behind with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number two to open up a 4-1 lead.
 
Coquinos would finish off the match with a clinching with at number three, downing her opponent 6-1, 6-2.
 
Catipovic would score a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at number four for a 6-1 lead, and despite dropping a point at number five, Luisa Aufferth would add a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 win at number six to finish off the 7-2 win.
 
The matchup with HSU was the tightest contest of the weekend, with Buiukian and Coquinos providing an 8-3 win at number two doubles, but the Storm headed to singles play in a 2-1 hole.
 
A loss at number one would stretch that to a 3-1 deficit before Buiukian picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (7) win at number two to start a rally which was followed by a 6-0, 6-3 win by Coquinos at number three to even the matchup at 3-3.
 
The Reddies would briefly regain the lead with a win at number four, but Maria Martinez would tie the match again with a 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-4 win at number five.
 
Aufferth closed out the comeback victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number six to secure the 5-4 win.
 
In the weekend finale, the Storm cruised to a shutout win over OBU.
 
It started with a hard fought 9-8 (2) win by Reljic and Catipovic at number one, and was followed by Buiukian and Coquinos winning 8-0 at number two while Conchi Assiego and Maria Martinez added an 8-0 win at number three.
 
Coquinos followed with a default in at two singles to make it 4-0, with Assiego finishing off the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six.  SE led or had already won the first set in all four other matches in singles play when the match ended.
