Rogers Highlights Storm Trip to OSU Rodeo

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern continued its run of success over the weekend, with Wyatt Rogers winning the men's all-around to lead a group of 15 competitors to reach the finals at Oklahoma State, helping the men to a second-place team finish and the women to a fourth place nod.

Rogers took home the all-around championship after qualifying for the finals in the bull riding and the steer wrestling.

He took home the bull riding championship- on the weekend, turning in a ride of 83 in the long-go which was good for second in the round before coming back with a 75 to win the short-go and scoring enough to pick up the win in the average as well.

Rogers would add a run of 4.0 in the opening round of the steer wrestling, placing him sixth in the round. He followed that up with a 6.7, placing fifth in the short go round and giving him a 5th place finish for the weekend in the average.

The bull riding proved to be the best event of the weekend for the Storm, as Kolton White, Hayden Harris, and Mason Ward joined Rogers in the finals.

White scored a 65 in the long-go, placing seventh, before coming back in the finals with a 75 which was good for third in the round and lifted him to third in the average.

Harris opened with a 62 in the long round, managing to stay on through a bull falling during the ride, and turned down a reride. He came back in the short-go and had two rerides due to the bulls falling on him causing some difficulties. On his third attempt of the round, Harris was unable to make the whistle giving him an eighth place finish for the weekend.

Ward turned in a 81 in the long round placing fourth int he round, but had some tough luck in the short go with a no score, but still ended the weekend with a fourth place finish.

The women's best event of the weekend was the goat tying which saw Cierra Doyal clock a 6.9 run in the opening round to finish second, while Martie Shockley was right behind with a 7.1 which was good for fifth in the round.

Doyal came back and turned in a 7.2 in the short-go, finishing second again, and giving her a second place finish for the weekend.

Shockley followed up her run with an 8.1 in the final, placing fifth in the short-go-round and fifth in the average for the event.

In the bareback riding, Dylan Riggins opened with a ride of 69 to finish fifth in the round and picked up the pace in the final with a 75 which was good to win the round and finish second overall in the average. The weekend performance helped lift him to third in the region in bareback riding.

Rowdy Chesser earned a trip to the finals in the saddle bronc riding after turning in a score of 69 in the long-go, splitting 10th/11th. Unfortunately he would fall on some hard luck in the final and suffer a no score, taking him out of the average.

In the tie down roping, Gus Franzen and Garrett Koester each earned a berth in the finals

Koester opened with a time of 11.1 to finish ninth in the long-go, and followed up with a fourth-place run of 10.9 in the finals to lift him to fourth in the average.
