Storm Open 2022 Season with Run at Washburn Open

TOPEKA, Kan. – Southeastern track and field opened the 2022 season at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan., where the team turned in a pair of personal bests as well as two top-10 finishes.
 
Samantha Wallis turned in an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a personal best of 12.62 meters to provide the team's best finish of the weekend.
 
She only held that honor by a small amount though as Daryn Batts tossed the shot 12.60 meters to finish one spot back in ninth-place.
 
Jayna Gomez rounded out the event with a 10.75 meter toss to finish 20^th in the shot put and would tack on a 24^th-place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 11.48 meters.
 
Megan Rose turned in the next best finish at the season opening event, clocking a 5:46.56 mile run which was good for 19^th place.
 
The Storm had a solid start to its season in the 400 meter run as Nyla Dawes opened the season finishing 20^th in a big field with a time of 1:02.22.
 
Amore Armstrong was right on her heels with a time of 1:02.75 to finish 26^th, while Sierra Parks rounded out the SE finishers with a time of 1:06.07 to finish 36^th.
 
Armstrong would add a 25^th-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.27, with Charisma Lacy-Ray right behind at 8.37 in 30^th, while Kenecia Stringfellow clocked a run of 8.48 to finish 33^rd.
 
Parks would add a 30^th-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.07 meters, while Bailey Pritchett would turn in a 12:50.86 run in the 3,000-meter run to finish 33^rd.
 
Dawes also led SE in a stacked 200-meter field, posting a run of 27.05 to finish 47^th, just ahead of Armstrong who clocked a time of 27.19 to finish 49^th.
 
Lacy-Ray checked in with a time of 27.77, while Stringfellow followe3d with a run of 28.47.
 
Parks and Danielle Doggett rounded out the field for the Storm with times of 28.50 and 33.20, respectively.
 
Southeastern track and field will continue its indoor schedule on Feb. 4-5 when it travels to Wichita, Kan., for the Herm Wilson Invitational.
