SE Improves Times at ESU Relays

EMPORIA, Kan. – Southeastern had 18 top-20 program marks, including a pair of school record in its most recent outing at the Emporia State Relays.
 
Megan Rose smashed the on-track record in the 5,000 meter run, putting up a 19:00.93, besting the previous school record by just over 53 seconds on her way to finishing 14^th in the stacked field.
 
She was joined in the record book by Denaye Thomas who led a flurry of SE bests in the 100 meter, posting a school best mark of 12.62, knocking 0.17 off the previous best mark, while all six runners for the Storm in the event from the weekend posted marks in the program's top-20.
 
While the field was loaded and Thomas posted a 30^th place finish, the times were fast, with Amore Armstrong turning in a 42^nd place finish with a 12.87 which is tied for the sixth-best mark all-time.  Charisma Lacy-Ray followed closely with a 12.89 which ranks eighth all-time.
 
Alani Calahan with a 12.98, Demi Zavala with a 13.18, and Trinity Booker with a 13.29 all reached the top-20 in the 100 meter.
 
The 4x400 meter relay team of Booker, Zavala, Armstrong, and Thomas put together the second-best run in school history as they clocked a time of 4:03.71 to finish 10^th at ESU.
 
The 4x100 meter group made up of Calahan, Lacy-Ray, Armstrong, and Thomas finished sixth on the day and had the fourth-best time in program history.
 
Alexis Longoria became the first runner to compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase since Rebekah Christman, and clocked a time of 12:39.18 which was good for sixth place.
 
Samantha Wallis posted a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.32 meters which ranks third-best in program history, while Daryn Batts just missed the top-10 with an 11^th place finish on a throw of 11.98 which is the fifth-longest throw all-time.
 
Wallis and Kathryn Newsom each turned in top20 all-time marks in both the discus and the javelin, with Newsom's 27.51 meter throw being her first since joining the program.
 
Batts also became the first Southeastern athlete to compete in the hammer throw, posting a 31.00 meter toss.
