Storm Sprinters Shine at East Texas Invite

COMMERCE, Texas – Southeastern sprinters highlighted the Savage Storm trip to the East Texas Invitational in Commerce, Texas, by combining for three new school records 12 new top-20 all-time marks.
 
Alani Calahan played a big part in two of those school records, first putting together a 100 meter time of 12.31 to finish eighth in the race and best the previous record by 0.31 seconds.
 
Calahan would aid in her second school-best mark in the 4x100 meter relay where she ran the first leg for a run of 48.55, finishing third in the race and passing the previous mark by 0.38 seconds. She was joined on the 4x100 relay by Charisma Lacy-Ray, Amore Armstrong, and Denaye Thomas.
 
Lacy Ray would also turn in a top time in the 100 meter with a 12.59 run that would have been a school record itself had it not been for Calahan's mark.
 
Kenecia Stringfellow would round out the 100 meter runners for the Storm and she would post a 12.73 which ranks fifth all time.
 
In addition to the 4x100 meter, the 4x400 meter relay would also post a record mark as Trinity Booker, Demi Zavala, Armstrong, and Thomas put together a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:01.23, passing the old mark by 0.18 seconds.
 
SE would also see a new record in a field event as Lauren Beason made her debut as a two-sport athlete, opening her track and field season after playing basketball for the Savage Storm. In her first jump for Southeaster she posted a 5.29 meter mark which was good for ninth at the meet, but beat the previous best mark for the Storm by 0.54 meters.
 
Additionally, Booker would post the season-best run in the 400 meter with a 58.75, while Alexis Longoria also posted a season best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a 12:26:41.
 
In the field events, in addition to Beason's long jump mark, Daryn Batts would put together a season-best discus toss with a heave of 36.65 meters which was good for fifth at the meet.
