SE Opens Indoor Season with Solid Performance

WICHITA, Kan. – Southeastern opened the 2023 track and field season with a solid indoor showing at the season-opening Herm Wilson Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
 
The Savage Storm had its best showing as a team in the 800-meter run with seven runners competing, while three of them posted top-10 finishes, led by Madison Rowe's school record smashing time of 2:27.45 which was good for a fifth-place finish.
 
She was joined in the top 10 by Makensi Greenwood and Kaitlyn Cedillo who clocked times of 2:28.98 and 2:29.45, respectively, which placed them sixth and eighth as well as also being marks well ahead of the previous school record.
 
Arden Kesterson and Aliya Carrizales also surpassed the previous school record, with the duo posting times of 2:39.13 and 2:40.52, respectively.
 
Alexis Longoria turned in a school-record mark of her own in the Mile run, finishing seventh in the event with a time of 5:38.72, passing the previous best by eight seconds.
 
The Storm posted a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay as Amore Armstrong, Rowe, Cedillo, and Greenwood combined to post a time of 4:13.69 which would rank as the third-best indoor relay time for SE.
 
Armstrong was just shy of her own 60-meter record, turning in a time of 8.17 to finish 20^th, while Charisma Lacy Raye added a mark of 8.27 which was good for 27^th.
 
Lacy-Raye would turn in a personal best run in the 200-meter as she clocked a 27.14 which was good for 15^th, while Armstrong was 19^th with a time of 27.32.
 
Samantha Wallis was the team's lone thrower, putting up an 11.96-meter toss in the shot put which was good for a seventh-place finish.
