SE Sets Six School Records at Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Southeastern track and field collected six new indoor school records over the weekend in a solid outing at the Eighth Annual Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
The Savage Storm sprinters picked up the bulk of those record performances, while SE did pick up new marks in the 800 meter and the Distance Medley Relay.
 
It was the 4x400 meter group of Amore Armstong, Makensi Greenwood, Madison Rowe, and Kaitlyn Cedillo who broke the previous relay record by nearly five seconds en route to a 16^th place finish at the event which featured 1,400 student athletes competing.
 
Relays remained a strength for SE even at longer distances as the distance medley relay team of Rachel Wynn. Cedillo, Savannah Sandoval, and Alexis Longoria also set a new indoor mark with a time of 13:29.65 which was good for 17^th in the event.
 
Longoria would be a part of two new indoor records as she would also post a 5:29.29 in the mile run which knocked 17 seconds off the best from last season on her way to a 57^th place finish.
 
A trio of runners posted a strong showing in the middle distance as Rowe paced the threesome in the 800 meter. Rowe would earn the new indoor school record mark with a time of 2:22.85, beating the previous mark by 19 seconds. She was followed by Greenwood and Arden Kesterson who would each post marks that would have beaten the previous school record, with Greenwood crossing in a time of 2:23.16 while Kesterson was at 2:28.83.
 
In the individual sprints, Charisma Lacy-Raye would lead the way in the 200 meter with a new school mark of 26.66, edging out the previous best mark by 0.16 seconds.
 
Armstrong would get into the record setting action as an individual as well, turning in a 1:00.35 in the 400 meter which bests the previous mark by 0.67 seconds.
 
Southeastern has one final indoor event on its schedule when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Qualifier Feb. 17.
