DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis opened Great American Conference play by splitting a pair of road matches in Arkadelphia, Ark., first dropping a narrow 4-3 matchup at Henderson State before bouncing back with a 6-1 win over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 4-11 overall on the year and 1-1 in conference play heading into a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Southern Arkansas on April 12 in Magnolia, Ark.

In the weekend finale, the Storm duo of
Vanessa Nitu and
Chiara Matteodo cruised to a 6-0 win at number two doubles to get thing started before
Georgia Hosking and
Sara Gonzalez followed with a 6-2 win at one doubles to secure the point.

Hosking and Nitu were the first two to power through their singles matches, with Nitu posting a 6-4, 6-1 win at number two while Hosking followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number three to push the lead to 3-0.

Matteodo would supply the match clinching win versus the Tigers, taking her match over Clarisa Valenzuela at number five 6-3, 6-2.

Rhythm Aswal followed with a win over Shelly Davilus at number six, with
Michelle Markovic downing Olivia Gaston at number four extending the lead to 6-0.

OBU would collect a win at the one singles position to fashion the 6-1 final score.

The Storm opened the weekend versus HSU and despite a win by Nitu and Matteodo at two doubles, would drop the point and trail 1-0 heading into singles play.

A Reddie win at one singles pushed their lead to 2-0, but Hosking would stop the slide with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jenna Bohnert at number four to make the score 2-1.

Aswal followed next with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Neha Dandu at number six to even the match at 2-2.

A 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 win at number two by Nitu would give Southeastern a 3-2 lead with two matches to play.

Unfortunately, the Storm would fall in both remaining matches in three sets to fall behind 4-3.
