EDMOND, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis was back in action with the doubles pairing of
Chiara Matteodo and
Vanessa Nitu highlighting the team's trip to the ITA Central Region Championships in Edmond, Okla.
Â
The duo would make a run to the double semifinals in the B draw over the weekend, just missing the finals in a tiebreaker loss.
Â
Matteodo and Nitu would open their tournament with an 8-6 win over Paige Stranghoner and Angelina Gnezdilova from Emporia State.
Â
The pair would follow that up with an upset win over 5-8 seeded duo of Georgia Plunkett and Reka Pesci from Harding, taking the match 8-6 again.
Â
That would move them to the quarter finals where Nitu and Matteodo would face third-seeded Karina Yurchenko and Akaya Koga from Central Oklahoma, handing them a 9-8 loss with an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker set.
Â
Unfortunately, the duo's run would come to an end in the semifinals where they would fall to 5-8 seeded Sandra Mari Marti and Andrea Vargas from Northeastern State.
Â
Southeastern will be back in tournament action Oct. 6-7 when it travels to Wichita Falls, Texas, for the Midwestern State Invitational.
