Six School Bests Highlight SE Season-Opener

TOPEKA, Kan. – Southeastern posted six new school records, including two from Madison Rowe, as the Savage Storm turned in a series of strong performances in its season-opening meet at the Washburn Alumni Invitational in Topeka, Kan.
 
Jayda Williams opened the running events in the 60-meter hurdles with a new school record mark of 9.14 in the prelims, the fourth-best mark of all runners before coming back in the finals and posting a seventh-place finish with a time of 9.50.
 
Tailyn Higginbotham would best the meet record and the SE record in the 600-yard run, clocking a time of 1:28.89 to finish third in the event, while Kaitlyn Cedillo also turned in a top-5 finish with a run of 1:30.33.
 
Je'Mela Harris would post a school-best time of 7.91 in the 60 meter, placing 12th in the prelims, while Jaiden Leighton also finished in the top-20 in the prelims with a mark of 7.97.
 
Madison Rowe turned in a pair of new indoor records for the Storm, first clocking a time of 59.06 in the 400 meter to finish fifth in the event.
 
She followed it up with a school-best run of 25.28 in the 200 meter, finishing sixth in the event while her teammate Ashton Carter also finished top-10 in the event, placing ninth with a time of 25.70.
 
Ashlynn Barrett and Ashlynn Pitts turned in back-to-back top-five finishes in the 800 meter as Barrett clocked 2:28.23 to cross in third while Pitts was in fourth with a time of 2:28.81.
 
SE would round out the running events with two top-five finishes in the 4x400 meter relay.
 
The "A" foursome of Andria Williams, Rowe, Higginbotham, and Lanajah Ticey finished second with a run of 4:03.72 which ranks as the third-best time at SE in the indoor version of the run.
 
The "B" squad of Keyana Brewer, Camaella Achuo, Shyanne Ford, and Barrett would finish fifth in the race with a time of 4:14.53.
 
In the field events, Kailyn Freeman set the stage when she established a school record in the indoor pole vault, clearing 2.50 meters to finish 14th at the meet.
 
Samantha Wallis would post a top-five program toss in the weight throw with a mark of 15.67 which was good for third in the event. She was joined in the top 10 by Emma Berry who posted a throw of 14.25 to finish eighth.
 
Wallis and Chanesse Chandler would each post top-10 finishes in the shot put, with Wallis tossing 11.68 meters to finish ninth, while Chandler was 10th with a throw of 11.65 meters.
