SE Track and Field Set for Championship Meet

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern track and field is set to embark on a road trip to Magnolia, Ark., for the Great American Conference Championship meet slated for May 1-3.
 
The Savage Storm head into the postseason looking to improve upon its eight-place preseason ranking and the ninth-place finish in last season's meet.
 
In 2023, SE scored in four meets and will return seven of the eight athletes who picked up All-GAC honors in last year's meet.
 
Makensi Greenwood, a member of the SE 4x400 meter relay team in 2023 which placed fourth, comes into the 2024 meet leading the GAC performance list in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:13.05, and is ranked second in the 400 meter hurdles with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 1:01.83. She also returned to the 4x400 meter relay team which ranks second in the GAC this season with a provisional qualifying time of 3:47.18.
 
In the field events, Macayla Needham comes into the conference meet leading the league in the shot put with a season-best toss of 14.73 meters which was a provisional mark, while she also ranks third int eh league in the hammer throw.
 
Samantha Wallis was a 2023 All-GAC winner in the shot put, and she comes into the weekend ranked in the top 10 in the shot put, the hammer throw and the javelin.
 
Another 2023 All-Conference honoree in Madison Rowe leads a threesome of top-10 times entering the 400 meter, and joins Greenwood in the 400 meter hurdles with the sixth best mark coming into the meet.
 
SE's relay teams rank among the best in the GAC, with the 4x400 meter squad posting the second-best run in the GAC this season on a provisional qualifying time of 3:47.18.
 
The 4x100 meter squad comes in with a 47.50 on the year, the fourth-fastest time in the league this season.
 
Jayda Williams aims to score in at least three events, coming in ranked ninth in the 100 meter hurdles, as well as fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump.
