EMPORIA, Kan. – Southeastern's
Macayla Needham is set for competition in shot put at the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet where she will throw on the final day of competition beginning at 11 a.m. on May 25 in Emporia, Kan.
Â
Needham already claimed the Savage Storm program record in the event and capped the 2024 season by becoming the first Savage Storm track and field athlete to earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships, picking up a bid in the shot put.
Â
She is one of 23 finalists in the nation in the event and her mark of 15.28 meters heads into the event seeded eighth among those advancing.
Â
The mark she earned her seeding with is the same school-record toss that she earned her Great American Conference Championship with. At those championships she picked up titles in both the shot put and the hammer throw.
Â
In her season with the Storm she has collected school records in both the shot put and the hammer throw and owns at least the five best throws in both events in school history.
Â
The NCAA DII Championships begin May 23 and will continue through its conclusion on May 25 in Emporia, Kan.
