RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – With the start of the 2025 spring tennis set to begin this weekend, the Southeastern Oklahoma State women's tennis team was voted third in the 2025 GAC Preseason Poll.
Southern Arkansas topped the preseason poll with 25 total votes and five first-place nods, and the Savage Storm would take the final first-place vote. Harding slots in second place just ahead of SE with 19 points, while the blue and gold garnered 18 votes. Henderson State (11) checks in next in fourth, while Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas Tech round out the standings with nine and eight votes, respectively.
Last season marked another successful year for the Savage Storm women, who claimed their third consecutive GAC Tournament Championship. Southeastern finished the 2023-24 season with just one conference defeat during the regular season for a 4-1 record and were 18-8 overall. Among their league wins, the Storm bested then No. 11 Southern Arkansas 4-3 and later beat them in straight sets 4-0 to claim the conference championship.
SE returns a handful of All-GAC recipients from last year, including the GAC's Newcomer of the Year,
Larissa Giraldi Correa, who compiled 13 singles wins. The Storm also bring back a pair of Second Team All-GAC players in
Amishi Shukla and
Milana Voloshyn, who were both freshmen a season ago.
Additionally, the blue and gold bring back seniors
Jou Chen Chen, who enters her second season with the Storm, and
Sara Gonzalez, who has been a four-year member. With some key departures from last season, head coach
Brian Nelson added to the roster in the summer and winter, including three new additions for the spring semester.
Southeastern begins its spring campaign on the road at Northeastern State at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1. The Storm's first home match is Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. versus Cowley County Community College, and will be one of 11 home matches for SE.
