DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern mens' and women's rodeo sent 12 members of the 2024-25 teams to visit Durant Intermediate School on Thursday where they were able to introduce sixth graders to some of the key elements of rodeo.
Â
"The rodeo team really enjoyed," said head rodeo coach
Christi Braudrick, "Getting to share with the DIS students a little bit of the western "rodeo" culture by giving the DIS students an opportunity to learn to swing a rope and catch a roping dummy. Many of the DIS students have never interacted with a horse and the excitement it brings is priceless."
Â
Team members first introduced students to a roping horse named "Dolly," allowing them to pet her and interact with the horse.
Â
Following the meet-and-greet, team members were able to teach DIS students the art of roping, demonstrating how they practice in preparation for a rodeo.
Â
DIS students then got their opportunity to swing a rope and practice catching a roping dummy.
