Burke Leads Successful Storm Outing at Hewett Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – Taniya Burke broke the 60 meter school record twice to pace a Southeastern club that saw 40 top-10 finishes in its first action of the 2026 portion of the indoor schedule at the Owen Hewett Invitational hosted by The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
 
Burke set and re-set the school record in the 60 meter dash, posting a 7.83 in the prelims before soaring past that with a 7.76 in the finals, winning the event.
 
She was joined in the finals by six other SE runners, with A'Daria Slay posting a 7.92 to finish 3^rd, Avionna Grigsby in fourth with a time of 7.94, and Camaella Achuo in fifth with a time of 8.03.
 
Latania Gipson followed in seventh, with Madison Rowe in 10^th and Mia Stewart in 11^th.
 
The Storm put five athletes in the top 10 in the mile run, led by Anahi Machuca who clocked a 5:45.37 to finish third, followed by Tatum Cross in fourth with a 5:45.78, and Naomi Cotero crossed in fifth with a time of 5:50.34.
 
Calibre Keene added an eighth place finish with a time of 5:53.63 and Mireyda Samper turned in a ninth-place run of 5:55.44.
 
In the invite section of the mile run, Ashlen Clem posted a fourth-place finish with a run of 5:35.48, while Katlen Clem was eighth with a time of 6:12.17.
 
Naomi Cotero led a trio of top-10 finishers in the 800 meters, turning in a run of 2:37.70 to finish third, with Samper next in line in seventh with a time of 2:43.39 followed by Alana Fontenot in ninth with a run of 2:45.20.
 
Ashlynn Barrett paced three Storm runners in the invite section of the 800 meters, turning in a 2:32.52, while Ashlen Clem clocked in seventh with a 2:36.99 and Andrea Lopez closed out the group in eighth with a 2:39.11.
 
Burke also led a group of four top-10 finishers in the 200 meter, turning in a time of 25.86 to finish third.
 
She was followed by Slay in fourth with a 26.25, followed by Achuo in a time of 26.59 in sixth and Ja'Marriah Powell in ninth with a time of 26.83.
 
Machuca led a group of five top-10 finishers in the 3,000 meters as she clocked a time of 11:28.23 to finish second, followed immediately by Cross in third with a time of 11:30.80 and Keene in fourth in a time of 11:57.77.
 
Devyn Doakes checked in eighth with a time of 12:14.80, with Aereonna Cardenas next in line in ninth with a run of 12:44.15.
 
In the field events, Kaitlyn Ervin turned in a second-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.57 meters, with Khareah Horton finishing fourth with a throw of 13.29 meters.
 
Mia Stewart nearly set a new school record in the long jump as she leapt 5.41 meters to finish fifth in the long jump, just missing the school record mark of 5.43 meters.
